Daredevil Dies in Crash of his Homemade Rocket

“Mad Mike” Hughes, a self-styled explorer and daredevil who tried to prove that the earth is flat, was killed when his homemade rocket crashed in the California desert.

A videotape of the incident, in which the rocket appears to fail shortly after take-off in the Mojave Desert, California, was posted to Twitter by a freelance journalist who was filming the launch.

“Mad Mike", a 64-year-old adventurer and scientist launched himself in a self-made steam-powered rocket from the back of a truck and crash landed. The rocket was seen to go straight up and then straight down again.
