Fishing in the rain (past continuous)
It was a cold dark evening in February in the city. It
was raining heavily and the roads were covered in water.
George was leaving his office after work when he
noticed a poor old man. The man was standing next to
a puddle in the road. He was wearing long rubber
fishing boots and he was holding a stick with a piece
of string. The string was hanging in the puddle.
George asked the old man what he was doing and the
man replied that he was fishing. ‘Poor guy!’, George
thought. The old man was obviously going
crazy. George felt sorry for the old man, and he was
getting
very wet, standing outside in the rain, so he decided to
invite the old man to have a drink with him in a nearby bar.
George ordered a drink for himself and bought one for the
old man. The old man was smiling happily as he was
drinking. While they were finishing their drinks,
George tried to start a conversation. He turned to the old
man and asked,
'So is the fishing good today?'
‘Not bad today, thanks.’ replied the old man.

Let me begin by saying that italki is a sponsor of our podcast Aprender
Inglés con Reza y Craig. They pay us money to advertise their product.
Nevertheless, I believe that italki offers a very good service to
language students and I’d like to explain why.
Italki is basically a marketplace for teachers and students to find each
other and study online using the internet.
So, how does it work? Well, you sign up (or simply login with Facebook),
you choose a native English teacher and you start studying.
You decide how much you want to pay, because there are different prices
for different teachers. The teachers put the price per lesson next to
their photo.
Often there’s a short video that the a teacher makes that you can watch
to see if you want to try that teacher and don’t worry because if you
decide after one or two lessons that you don’t really like the teacher,
you can change and choose another one until you find a teacher that you
feel comfortable with.
You pay for lessons with italki credits that you buy on the website with
your credit card. 100 italki credits is about 9 or 10 euros. If you go
to
inglespodcast/italki you can get 100 credits free when you
register.
We’re convinced that this is one of the best ways of improving your
English, especially your speaking and listening. You get personal
